Dr Ian Cline, Course Director
Ian Cline is a practising restorative dentist, national and international dental educator, and Founder and Course Director of DENTER.
He has taught restorative and aesthetic dentistry for many years, with a particular interest in simplifying clinical techniques so they can be applied predictably in everyday practice.
Ian is an International Key Opinion Leader for Dentsply Sirona and has worked in advisory and educational roles with a number of dental companies.
His teaching focuses on structured clinical workflows, hands-on learning and helping dentists understand not only how to perform a technique, but when and why to use it.

FOUNDATION
DAY 1 | CLINICAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Develop a consistent photographic workflow for clinical records, diagnosis, treatment planning, laboratory communication and patient communication. Learn how to produce predictable clinical photographs efficiently in everyday practice.
DAY 2 | SMILE DESIGN & DIGITAL AESTHETIC IMAGING
Develop a structured approach to aesthetic assessment. Learn how facial and dental proportions, tooth position, form and symmetry can be used to plan restorative cases more effectively.
DIRECT RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY
DAY 3 | POSTERIOR DIRECT COMPOSITES
Develop a repeatable approach to posterior composite restorations. Focus on placement, contacts, marginal ridges, occlusal anatomy, morphology, finishing and polishing.
DAY 4 | ANTERIOR DIRECT COMPOSITES
Learn a structured approach to anterior composite dentistry. Cover shade selection, layering, Class IV restorations, contour, surface anatomy, finishing and polishing.
INDIRECT RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY
DAYS 5 & 6 | VENEERS, ONLAYS & CROWNS
Follow the complete workflow for indirect restorative dentistry. From restoration selection and preparation design through scanning, temporisation and final adhesive cementation. Learn when to choose a veneer, onlay or crown and how to preserve tooth structure wherever possible.
OCCLUSION & FUNCTION
DAYS 7 & 8 | OCCLUSION, TMJ & SPLINT THERAPY
Develop a clearer understanding of occlusion and how it influences restorative treatment planning. Learn a systematic approach to assessment, diagnosis and management, including the appropriate use of splint therapy.
ISOLATION
DAY 9 | RUBBER DAM & ISOLATION
Develop fast, practical and predictable rubber dam techniques for everyday restorative dentistry. Learn how to isolate both straightforward and more challenging clinical situations while maintaining access and visibility.

TREATMENT PLANNING THROUGHOUT THE PROGRAMME
Learning individual clinical techniques is only useful if you know when and how to use them. Treatment planning therefore runs throughout the Year Programme. The aim is not simply to teach you how to place a composite, prepare an onlay or analyse an occlusion.
It is to help you decide:
What does this patient actually need?
Which treatment is most appropriate?
What should be treated first?
How can the dentistry be made simpler and more predictable?
By the end of the programme, the individual disciplines should begin to work together as one restorative system.
WHAT YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO AFTER THE TRAINING
By the end of the programme you should be able to:
Produce consistent clinical photographs for diagnosis, treatment planning and communication.
Assess aesthetic cases using facial and dental parameters.
Plan restorative treatment more systematically.
Deliver predictable anterior and posterior direct composite restorations.
Plan and prepare veneers, ceramic onlays and crowns using tooth-preserving principles.
Temporise and adhesively cement indirect restorations.
Assess occlusion with greater confidence and understand when splint therapy may be appropriate.
Isolate restorative procedures predictably using rubber dam.
Bring these individual skills together into comprehensive restorative treatment plans.
NINE DAYS DESIGNED FOR DOING
The theoretical components of the programme are supported by structured online learning through the DENTER Portal.
This allows the face-to-face course days to concentrate predominantly on practical learning rather than extended lectures.
You arrive familiar with the underlying principles and can spend more of the day practising the techniques.
Throughout the programme you will work through structured hands-on exercises, with opportunities for discussion, troubleshooting and individual feedback.
With a maximum of just 12 dentists, the programme is deliberately kept small.

DIRECTIONS TO DS ACADEMY
By road
A few minutes from the M25 and both the A318 and A245, and approximately 21 miles from Central London, road communications to The Heights Brooklands office space are excellent. On arrival at The Heights, please park in Bays marked with a Yellow Circle.
By train
Weybridge Railway Station (approximately 1 mile away from The Heights Brooklands) provides a 35 minute service into London Waterloo with four to five trains per hour. A courtesy bus runs from Weybridge station to The Heights every 8 minutes during peak times.
By air
The Heights is situated 13 miles from Heathrow Airport (approx. 35 minutes drive) and 25 miles from Gatwick Airport (approx. 45 minutes).
