This course is for you if…
You own a DSLR or mirrorless camera but your photos are inconsistent — different angles, different lighting, different colours every time
You're transitioning to private practice and know your portfolio isn't doing your work justice
You want to communicate more effectively with your lab, especially on shade
You'd like to use your clinical work confidently on Instagram, your website, or in case presentations
You've never picked up a clinical camera and want to start the right way, once
It's probably not for you if…
You don't intend to use a dedicated camera (phone-only photography isn't covered).
Why dental photography is the highest-leverage skill you're not investing in
Most dentists know they should be taking better photographs. Few are.
The result: lab work that doesn't match because the shade communication was guesswork. Treatment plans that don't land because the patient can't see what you can see. A portfolio that doesn't reflect the standard of your dentistry. And marketing that costs you cases you should be winning.
The good news is that consistently excellent clinical photography is a system, not a talent. Once you know which kit to use, which settings to lock in, and which views to capture every time — it becomes routine. That's what this day is built to deliver.
What you'll be able to do after this course
Capture a full standardised AACD/BACD series — every time, in under ten minutes
Lock in camera settings that give you reproducible exposure, sharpness, and colour, case after case
Communicate shade accurately to your lab using cross-polarisation and contrastors
Document orthodontic cases to the standard required for Invisalign and other systems
Take portrait and extraoral images that complement your clinical series
Build a portfolio ready for case presentations, your website, and social media
Train your nursing team to take photos to the same standard when you're not behind the camera
Blended learning — you'll arrive prepared
This isn't a day where you spend the morning catching up. Around three hours of pre-course online training (theory, fundamentals, kit walkthroughs) is delivered through DENTER's dedicated learning portal, so the hands-on day is spent doing — not listening.
You'll keep portal access, including all PDFs, manuals and references, for three years after the course.

What do others say…
-

“Having considered myself a keen photographer for a number of years, I attended Ian’s course purely as an opportunity to gain some additional CPD. Upon completing the one day hands on photography course, it wasn’t a refresher as initially thought, but has made me look at every aspect of my dental photography, and I came away full of new tips and tricks to improve the quality but also consistency of my dental photography. ”

FAQs
I've never used a clinical camera before. Is this too advanced?
1
No. The pre-course online training brings everyone to the same starting point. Plenty of past delegates arrived having never taken a clinical photograph.
I already take dental photos. Will I learn anything new?
2
Yes — feedback from experienced photographers (see Dr Resh Diu's testimonial above) is consistently that the course sharpens consistency and introduces techniques like cross-polarisation that most self-taught dentists haven't systematised.
Can I bring my dental nurse?
3
The course is designed for dentists, but dental therapists and hygienists are welcome. For nurse-only training, get in touch separately.
What if I don't have a camera yet?
4
Email Ian before booking — he'll give you straightforward guidance on what to buy. A limited number of loaner kits are available for the day.
